      You see strange things all the time as a palaeontologist. There are some pretty odd fossils out there, that sometimes make you think, ‘gosh, how did that creature move / swim’ etc., e.g. weird partially uncoiled gastropod (snail) shells. Sometimes fossil preservation can be really weird, creating intricate mineral textures that you wouldn’t expect.
