      Avicenna (the father of modern medicine, also the most influential philosopher of the pre-modern era)
      Edward Jenner (the first vaccine)
      Khwarizmi (founder of Algebra)

      I guess Leonardo da Vinci – he was incredibly talented. What a polymath. He recognised fossils and theorized plate tectonics!

      Also Galileo Galilei. It took guts to stand up to the Catholic establishment and tell that the Earth was NOT at the centre of the universe.
