Sodium Zone

Sodium gives some streetlamps their orange glow | Image: Robin Webster geograph.org.uk

Sodium is the sixth most common element on the planet, and is essential to all living things. We get sodium from our diets, and it is important for things like regulating water levels in tissues and blood. Sodium also has practical uses, and is used in a lot of street lighting, giving it its orange glow.

In this general science zone you’ll meet scientists working in a range of fields.
